CITATION CRASH

June 30th was a dark day for the aviation family in Conway Arkansas. That Saturday afternoon Mr. Hugh Raines crashed his Citation jet and skidded into a home at the west end of runway 26. Killed in the accident were Mr. Raines the pilot and Mrs. J.V. Brady who was a resident of the home struck. Our hearts and prayers go out to those families who lost their love ones.

AIRPORT SAFETY

Much has been spoken of in the local media concerning our beloved airport recently. Many so called “experts” have spoken of the “short runway” or the “tricky” approach to the airport. The facts are that airplane crashes happen each and every day. Another fact is that the Conway Municipal Airport has 1000’s of safe landings and takeoffs each and every year. While the recent crash is tragic, the larger picture of the safe operations that occur each and every day needs to be kept in prospective.

NEW FOLKS

We salute our former manager Andy Jerry and his recent selection as an Air Force pilot candidate. Andy’s service to us was short but greatly appreciated. Blake Weston is our new manager. Blake comes to us from a management position with Splash Carwash. Daniel Whiddon is another new employee on the field. Daniel graduated from Spartan school of Aeronautics in Tulsa Oklahoma. Daniel is scheduled to be married this month. Drop by the airport soon and say hi to our new family members.

TAPS

Recent passing of fellow aviators have left us all with sad hearts. Fritz Norwine who was a long time mechanic fixture around Conway and Morrilton recently passed away. James Taylor Clark or “Doc Clark” as we all called him also passed away recently. Our prayers go out to their friends and families
